BUT, BEER DOESN'T REALLY NEED SAVING...DOES IT?

  • The long & the short of it

  • Sipping a schooey at the pub, you probably aren’t pondering the soil where the grains in your brew have grown. But taking root right there in the ground is a very real threat to food production. Just as your backyard veggie patch has weeds, so do the vast paddocks of crops keeping eskies and pantries stocked, year after year. Weeds suck moisture out of the ground, and the thing about Australian farmland is, it’s dry enough already.
For better or worse, herbicides have kept these intruders at bay for decades (*not sponsored by Monsanto). However a lack of alternative strategies and an unhealthy dose of quick-fixes has rendered these chemicals useless against today’s weeds. Weedy paddocks means bad news for the brewery. It means goodbye barley, bread and breakfast too.

"In the long term, herbicide-resistant weeds are likely to drive up food prices. More expensive corn and soy mean more expensive animal feed, which means more expensive meat. Someone will have to pay for it somewhere down the line. Farmers will take the worst of it, no question. But we all will pay the price."

-- Lee Van Wychen, Weed Science Society

BUT FRET NOT, THERE'S A REASON THE TAPS HAVEN'T DRIED UP YET.

In 2010, the team at Seed Terminator introduced a non-chemical solution to farmers’ toolkit – an attachment to the harvester that mechanically destroys weed seeds, effectively putting a stop to the runaway train of herbicide resistance and tackling the burden of weeds for good. Now we’re wanting to advance our cause with a louder voice. We want everyone to connect with where their food comes from and participate in the change, because when we back our farmers, the world never goes hungry.

Our Demands

  • Using non-chemical crop protection strategies

  • Protected from weeds in the Yorke Peninsula

  • Crafting beer from responsibly-grown barley

  • Left until the weekend

THANK A FARMER FOR YOUR NEXT BEER
